PDG last week topped out the third building of its 200MW JH1 data centre campus in Johor and commenced construction of a fourth building.

The growing JH1 campus

According to PDG's announcement on LinkedIn, JH1 is a 200MW data centre campus, up 50MW from when it was first announced.

Back then, JH1 was a 150MW facility. As of today, its website and factsheet both list JH1 as 190MW. I imagine another update is due.

Here are some key specifications from the JH1 factsheet: N+1 water cooled chiller system, 132kV diverse power feed, and slab-to-slab height of 7 metres.

Why the changes? My guess is they gained access to additional power and water, allowing them to significantly increase the size of the data centre campus.

So it's not all doom and gloom in Johor despite recent reports of constrained resources.

Fast growth

PDG has grown rapidly across the Asia Pacific. In November, it announced that it has broken ground on its 120MW JC3 data centre campus in Jakarta.

That same month, PDG also announced its entry into South Korea, its seventh market, with plans to develop multiple campuses of up to 500MW. It announced a 48MW campus in Greater Seoul.

When tracked against Singtel's Nxera with just four countries, it becomes evident why Nxera is reportedly seeking a multi-billion-dollar loan for a proposed purchase of STT GDC, which has data centres in a dozen countries.

The digital infrastructure game has reached a state where it's either go big or go home.
